Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of translating realia in travel and pilgrimage texts and to identify effective strategies for their adequate rendering. The research material consists of 36 realia units selected from texts related to the Khorezm region. The analysis is conducted using comparative-descriptive, contextual, componential, and discursive-pragmatic approaches. The findings demonstrate that transliteration, descriptive translation, functional equivalents, and combined strategies vary in effectiveness depending on the type of realia. Specifically, preserving form is essential for toponymic units, conveying semantic and evaluative layers is crucial for religious-ritual terms, and descriptive approaches are more effective for ethnographic items. The study also reveals that pragmatic differences between travel and pilgrimage texts significantly influence translation choices. In conclusion, translating realia requires a comprehensive approach aimed at ensuring communicative adequacy.
